websiteIf you have any hopes at all of creating and maintaining a presence on the internet, then it’s important that you understand how completely essential it is that you begin to generate backlinks to your website.

A lot of people don’t understand how important backlinks are to your future home business web presence, as well as level of website visitors.

First let me explain what a backlink is exactly for those who don’t know.

A backlink is exactly what it says…it’s a link pointing back to your website. Usually it’s a link that points to your site using what’s called an anchor text link. This means that the text (keyword or key phrase) that is hyperlinked points to your site, and the idea is to get your site ranking for the keywords that are used.

So for instance if you have a home business in the MLM industry, and a keyword that you want to rank for is “join MLM” then you’ll want to have links pointing to your site hyperlinked with that term.

Why are backlinks even important?

Backlinks are essential if you want to rank well in the search engines because they act basically as a vote for your site. Basically the more backlinks a site has, the more popular that site will look to Google and other search engines, and therefore the better it will rank.

But the key is ranking for the targeted keywords that people will be searching for… so that way when they land on your site they have a relevant page sitting in front of them. This means more sells for your home business, or even more people recruited if it’s a business opportunity like MLM.

Ok, so how do you get backlinks to your site?

Of course it’s all well and good to know that you need backlinks and why, but the next tough part is knowing how to get them.

There are a few was to do this fairly easily. I’ll explain 3 of the quickest ways that you can use to generate backlinks starting today if you want.

1) Articles… That’s right; articles are a great way to generate backlinks for specific terms. When you write an article what do you usually do? That’s right you submit it to an article directory. Actually if you’re smart, since you own the article, you’ll submit it to a number of article directories in order to generate even more backlinks.

The good part is that a lot of people go to article directories to pick up content for their own sites that they need content for. When they do this, and they keep your article in tact the way that they’re supposed to, that means that you’re getting your site spread around the internet to even more sites. One viral article can get you a ton of backlinks and the great part is that you only had to do the work once.

There is also article submitter software that let’s you automate the submission to various directories, as well as article submission services where you simply pay a fee and your article is blasted out for you. It’s up to you which one you use, but the bottom line is that you SHOULD use one of the two, or even both.

2) Bookmarking… A lot of people get confused by bookmarking and don’t really get what it’s all about. It’s really quite simple. A bookmark online is much the same as when you see a website that you like and you save it to your computer so that you can come back to it later.

The only difference is that when you do it online through a site like Digg, Technorati, Reddit, or any of the 100’s probably thousands of others out there you’re doing it online through their servers.

Where you benefit as far as backlinks go is that everytime you submit your site to be bookmarked it creates a new backlink from the sites like Digg and Technorati…and these sites have a lot of authority with Google and the other search engines which means that these search engines will look at your site as authoritative as well.

There are tools online that you can use that automate bookmarking and will let you distribute your bookmarks to several different sites at once. Onlywire is a good one.

3) Commenting… Commenting is an easy way to get backlinks from other sites that hold authority. You can leave comments at various blogs, in forums, on video sites; answer sites (yahoo answers for instance) etc and leave a link back to your site.

The best way to do this is to leave good relevant information and not go around spamming these places. There are various reasons for this, but for the most part you don’t want to be part of the spam problem. The other things is that if someone is reading your comment and feel that you have something valuable to say, they’ll click on your links to find out what else you’ve got to say.

So always give value and you’ll not only get a lot of backlinks, but you’ll get a lot of fans and direct traffic as well.

So there you go, those are three fast ways to start getting backlinks to your home business website starting today if you want to. As you get a system down for these then you can begin to add more and more strategies overtime, but these 3 should keep you pretty busy for a while.
